About Precious Pet Rabbits

Laurie Stroupe accepting NCRBA first place open sweepstakes award for 2007.

My first pet rabbits were pet shop bunnies.   I knew nothing about them except for the very erroneous information I had gotten at the pet shop.  I enjoyed them, but didn't really get hooked.

We spent many years after that with no pets as we added four children to our family and had only one main goal in life:  to potty train our last child.

Even before we met our potty training goal, we begin to add pets back to our lives.  We didn't realize how much we had missed them.  Now we have 5 Chihuahuas, 4 outdoor dogs, a cat, 4 ducks, and several dozen rabbits!

When our youngest was 2, we moved from metro Atlanta to the country.  A couple of years later, I began home schooling the children and thought that getting rabbits would be educational - for them.

It turns out they were very educational - for me.  I had no idea there was so much to be learned about rabbits.  I decided to breed my rabbits just once and became totally hooked.

Fast forward a few years.  My youngest is 11 and breeds Jersey Woolies.  I've now raised over 600 rabbits, have been nationally competitive with my Holland lops, am a licensed rabbit registrar, am working on becoming a licensed rabbit judge with the American Rabbit Breeders Association, and have granded over 40 home grown Hollands!  I have handled and inspected literally thousands of rabbits.

Along the way, I've learned a lot about rabbits - and I'm still learning.  If I breed rabbits for the rest of my life, I will still be learning about these fascinating animals.

I receive emails and phone calls from all over the world and have learned a lot from those who have asked me questions.  I appreciate hearing their stories and concerns.  I especially appreciate those who email or call me back to let me know how things turned out.

I started Precious Pet Rabbits on my rabbitry website to provide pet care information for those who purchase pet rabbits for me.  Over time, it grew and grew until it was obvious that it needed a while website of its own.  On this website, I recommend products for your rabbits and books about their care.  I do not recommend every product that I could offer to you, but only those that I feel are worthy and provide a value.  Some products, in my opinion, are actually dangerous for rabbits.  You won't find those listed here.

If you are interested in learning about breeding and showing rabbits, please visit my rabbitry website:  The Nature Trail Rabbitry.  And don't forget to visit my rabbitry blog.  There are over 600 posts about raising rabbits, showing, sportsmanship, and life as a breeder.

When I'm not working with my rabbits, I'm working on my business, Laurie's Cobalt World.  I write a blog on living life to the fullest for my business and publish a monthly newsletter on entertaining, flower arranging, cooking, baking, crafts, family life, and more.

My husband and I enjoy ballroom dancing in our spare time.  I also love to garden but have given it up almost completely in favor of spending time with my rabbits.

Please visit often and feel free to email me.  I'd love to hear from you.
